There are signs on the local streets advertising buying houses. The Wife called the number and sure enough, they’re buying our old house. We left some equity on the table, but in these times, that’s OK. Besides, we got a really good deal on the one we’re in now.
Turns out it’s a franchise made up of local painters, carpet layers and other craftsmen, who buy houses and rent them to own. The closing is in two weeks. They’re going to completely redo the back yard, so the Wife wants me to take up a big azalea, a stupid snowball bush and a bunch of patio stones, in addition to the dirt from my raised beds.
My therapy session went well yesterday. I have no integrity, that is to say I’m not highly integrated. Those are my words. He indicated we all have a child, an adolescent and an adult in our tortured minds. He discussed the Internal Family Systems Model by Richard C. Schwartz. As I understand it, the object is to recognize the different parts of ourselves and have them relate with one another.
Dr. Dickinson gave me an exercise. Imagine myself walking down a road as a child. In the distance, imagine someone approaching. As they become more clear, it is myself as an adult. I can have these two parts of myself talk to each other, ask questions, hug or whatever. I think my first exercise will be having my child stomp my adult’s ass. Both will invariably feel much better.
“I think my first exercise will be having my child stomp my adult’s ass. Both will invariably feel much better.”
Thanks. I needed that.
You’re welcome. I love the idea of Managers, Exiles & Firefighters.
Ahh, John Bradshaw’s inner child has been updated/integrated in the IFS model.
I was first exposed to the concept from my at the time brother-in-law. It made a lot of sense to me, though I didn’t do any mental work with it. Saw several of Bradshaw’s video’s at the time.
Yeah !
I just seemed the right thing to do. I would have let the adolescent do it, but a beating would mean so much more coming from my child. After all, he’s older.
Sounds like that franchise might offer some opportunity for some intensive energy retrofits.
Don’t know about your temps this month, but places in the Midwest and plains have set some records for cold over several years.
We got our first really cold blast last night. Mercifully, we don’t get much of it.
