From Frank Mickens at digtriad:
Greensboro, NC — An officer at the center of the Greensboro police scandal is on trial this week.
Scott Sanders faces a judge and jury accused of illegally accessing a government computer.
Prosecutors say he used a federal computer assigned to a Greensboro police officer working with a federal drug task force.
It appears that Mickens is damn near illiterate, not to mention biased.
AFAYK, the case took a turn for the prosecution when it was discovered that Sanders and several spectators were wired with mics and recording the proceeding. Asked afterward for the reason, Sanders replied:
I can’t help myself.
Retired GPD officer, Randall Brady, claimed no knowledge of the bugs.
Chief David Wray called to assure Sanders it was OK to stop now.
From Jennifer Fernandez at the N&R:
The prosecutor in the trial of a white Greensboro police officer accused the defense today of dismissing only black jurors during the selection process…
Superior Court Judge Forrest Donald Bridges, who said he had “grave concerns” about the defense’s use of peremptory dismissals, did not allow that dismissal.
Lord knows Scooter can’t get a fair trial with black folks on the jury. This is the kind of thing you can expect when you let black folks sit in judgment. And look what happened by letting them vote. I thought Sanders was due a jury of his peers.
@ Fec
I once read a successful novelist said the newspaper was his best source for story lines.
Is Sanders a smart ass or just a psychopath with a badge ?
The poor bastard got caught up in the struggle between the white and black cops and was told to tape everything to protect himself. Sooner or later, he was bound to run afoul of a law. The whole thing has become so Byzantine that it’s almost impossible to keep up.
@ Fec
Allllriiight ! Thanks for the background.
I’ve been in-between and wished I’d had taping capabilities !
Read, if you dare, parts 1-70 at The Rhino Times.
@ Fec
errr … I’ll wait for the paperback.
I’ve made countless jokes about their inability to bring it home and find a publisher.
Actually, that was a pretty good summary, Fec. You and Bledsoe should chat;)
But my liege, respectfully and on bended knee, as the race cards fly about the Courtroom, is it not just as racist to exclude white people from sitting in judgement because the prosecutor assumes that they will not convict our poor Scooter . . . and black folks will?
I have heard that black folks can’t be racist. Actually, Mr. Cohen is just acting in the best interest of his client. I just can’t help piling on.
And if I ever got in the same room with Bledsoe, he would stomp my ass. I’m not sure it would be a crime.
