Sean Hannity just had Senator George Voinovich (R-OH) on the radio. I really feel sorry for the citizens of Ohio. This guy doesn’t have a clue.

He didn’t know what The Fairness Doctrine was. It was embarrassing.

Voinovich continued by filibustering and demurring when questioned. The Senate apparently has no idea what economic effect the Immigration Reform Bill they are cobbling together will have. The old fart doesn’t even seem to know what’s in the Bill. Hannity claims to have read a report from The Heritage Foundation. Big whup for him.

On Homeland Security:

Many of the shortfalls in homeland security since 9/11 can be directly traced to Congress piling more missions and responsibilities on the Department of Homeland Security than it could practically accomplish. The Senate’s proposal to give amnesty to millions of immigrants unlawfully present in the United States would further overwhelm DHS’s capacity to manage immigration services, enforce the law, and ramp up security at the border. Giving more missions to DHS now is a strategy for failure. Instead, Congress should let DHS focus on its current missions and mandates, using its existing authority to secure the border, enforce the law, and provide a powerful deterrent to future illegal migration.

OTOH, Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) is on and says that because the Bill didn’t come through committee and is so large that nobody really knows what’s in it.

WorldNetDaily has the audio and a much better account:

WASHINGTON – Sen. George Voinovich, R-Ohio, misunderstood the results of a vote on an amendment to the “comprehensive immigration reform” bill being debated in the upper house today.

He also is apparently unfamiliar with efforts to re-impose the Fairness Doctrine on broadcasters operating on the public airwaves.

But it was nationally syndicated radio talk-show host Sean Hannity’s persistent grilling about the senator’s intentions on key cloture votes leading to a showdown on what is characterized as an “amnesty” bill that caused Voinovich to melt down before millions of listeners today.
