From Taft Wireback at the N&R:
City and state officials are working out an agreement using $15 million to $17 million in municipal money, plus local labor to speed completion of the Urban Loop’s western leg.
I wonder which is more important: completing the Urban Loop or polishing the legacies of Robbie Perkins and Doug Galyon. God, how I hate young men in a hurry.
Even if we dispense with the obvious conflicts of interest (property developers), there remains the lack of recognition that economic realities have changed drastically and there is no indication things will get better any time soon.
Finally, there is no guarantee the NCDOT will be in any position to reimburse the City for the loan, particularly with Obama and Perdue in charge.
Tell Doug Galyon and the NCDOT to take a hike. Mollifying the Lake Jeanette McMansion constituency ain’t worth $15M.
The City has ignored D1 and D2, save for a landfill. And now they want to rape them. I’d like to see some minority property development zones first.
If motorists on I-73 from Michigan headed to Myrtle Beach really have to come via GSO, let them use 68 to I-40/85. Or will that queer some kind of fed funds to the DOT?
The gravel, concrete and asphalt monopolies must be fed.

Another another great post, except for the comment about President Obama. Guess you had a republican moment. Just when I thought there was hope.
Having family members in D1 and D2 and residing in the district, I wholeheartedly agree that we need help out here. I know that the representatives of D1 and D2 feel passionately about their districts and whoever takes their place will feel the same passion. The problem, as I see it, is with the other members of council. They could care less about 1 & 2 and it shows on Tuesday nights.
It takes five votes for anything to get passed. If Mayor Johnson is fortunate to get re-elected, that makes three votes for D1 & D2. Now where will the other two votes come from? I haven’t a clue!
D1 and D2 are drive through country. Perkins will offer the Simkins PAC some worthless beads and baubles and get their approval for this, too. Just once, I’d like to see the Simkins PAC really stand up for their people instead of simply baiting the racists yet again.
Times are a changing hopefully.
Just curious, who do you think, with the present council, will vote for this measure? Excluding D1, D2 and the mayor of course.
Perkins, Anderson-Groat, Barber and Methany.
barber & matheny? Seriously? ummmm
I have no idea. Jabba the Rakestraw might even go for it.
