When last I posted on the subject, I had planned to use Ruby on Rails to develop internet apps. While it is a fine product, my customer doesn’t have time to wait or a desire to pay for development in a new language. So, I ordered a book on developing internet apps with Microsoft’s Visual FoxPro, written by Rick Strahl, creator of West Wind Web Connection, a wonderful product assisting implementation of VFP on the web.
I’m really enjoying the book with its comprehensive discussion of Microsoft’s Internet Information Server and Active Server Pages. The reading is academic as Strahl’s web product allows hosting with IIS and VFP. The hardware guy for my biggest customer is over the moon with my solution. That’s not an insignificant thing. Our talk of going with a Linux solution had upset him quite a bit.
