Lounge Lizards

As has been pointed out by others, today’s sphincter-smooching of Coliseum director, Matt Brown, in the N&R‘s editorial is hard to read:

The council also should at least acknowledge Brown’s creativity and resourcefulness. Both the VIP lounge and the amphitheater will be built primarily without tax money. Yet three council members still voted against them. “I [...]

Mayor Perkins

Not so long ago, I had an ad running here urging Greensboro citizens to vote no for councilman Robbie Perkins as mayor, even though he wasn’t running. Such was my concern at his potential for mendacity that I wasn’t taking any chances.

But that was then and this is now. The only joy I [...]

Two-Faced Robbie Perkins

WFMY News 2 has been running ads concerning the Aquatic Center comparing it to Charlotte’s boondoggle version with clips of city councilman Robbie Perkins saying we can’t compare the two and that Greensboro must play to its strengths.

Robbie thinks we have a short memory. For years, Perkins has been obsessed with comparing us to [...]

County FOIA Response

I received a written response from the Guilford County Deputy Attorney to my FOIA request for correspondence between Greensboro city councilman Robbie Perkins and any County Commissioner regarding Granite Church Street, LLC. A search of e-mails and hard copy correspondence failed to find anything.

I appreciate their valuable time and quick response. Next time, [...]

No Correspondence

I received an e-mail from the City of Greensboro this morning indicating:

There is no correspondence pertinent to your request of April 16, 2010.

I should have written the requests without mentioning Councilman Perkins at all. As we have seen, creators of LLCs let others do their bidding.

Perhaps the County’s response will be more encouraging.

Perkins Lacks Moral Authority

It is with some amusement that I read in this week’s Rhino Times of Greensboro city councilman Robbie Perkins exhorting city staff to come up with budget cutting measure less politically offensive than discontinuing loose leaf collection and the closure of Lake Higgins Park.

As John Hammer illustrates, the demand upon Council for hard choices [...]

Dear Mr. Young:

Pursuant to the state open records act, I request access to and copies of all correspondence of any kind between City Councilman Robbie Perkins and any Guilford County [...]

The Shoppes at Gunter's Crossing

Here’s the new shopping center at the corner of North Church Street and Hwy 150.

Previously.

The property is diagonal to Gethsemane United Methodist Church.

The property across the road from the shopping center on Church is a cemetery. There is a gas station on the other corner.

A McNeighborhood is visible further east on 150 and Northern [...]

Granite/Church Street, LLC

From the N&R:

As Guilford County faces another tough budget year, some county commissioners are questioning the effectiveness of a relatively new grant program designed to foster more growth in the local tax base.

The program, adopted in October, offers grants to businesses for the amount of county taxes it paid on any improvements to real property [...]

Throw the Bums Out

That Robbie Perkins is one smart fucker. He may be the most able pol I’ve ever seen. Seriously, if extemporaneous speech betrays a beautiful mind, that four minute drill he gave at the last council meeting regarding the White Street Landfill was amazing.

We don’t seem able to do anything about the fact two [...]
